About Paris

Charles de Gaulle is Air France's global base and France's busiest airport, handling more than 70 million passengers a year. Long-haul departures cluster in Terminal 2E's K, L and M piers, while Terminal 1's seven satellites host Star Alliance and Gulf carriers. Terminal 3 handles low-cost and charter traffic, and Terminal 2G, a separate building reached by shuttle bus, runs Schengen regional flights.

The premium experience sits in 2E. Air France's Hall K business lounge reopened in expanded form across three levels and roughly 2,800 square metres, with a Clarins treatment area, showers, a co-working zone and seasonal menus signed by chef Yves Camdeborde. The redesigned La Premiere lounge, over 1,000 square metres with an Alain Ducasse dining room, Sisley spa rooms and three adjoining private suites, is for first-class passengers only.

The widebody banks in 2E are what the airport is built around. North America is roughly eight hours away at New York and eleven to twelve on the US West Coast, flown by Air France alongside Delta, United, Air Canada and American. West Africa and the Gulf sit at six to seven hours, with Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad running their own metal into CDG, and the Indian Ocean is about eleven. East and Southeast Asia are eleven to thirteen hours, with Air France joined by Japan Airlines, ANA, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific. Nothing flies nonstop between Paris and Australia, so those itineraries take one stop through an Asian or Gulf hub.

Paris works best as a European gateway rather than a single destination. CDG feeds TGV services from the on-site Aeroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV station, Air France's dense European network, and onward long-haul to West Africa and the Indian Ocean. If your trip pairs France with Italy, Spain or Morocco, starting or finishing here beats backtracking through London.

Worth knowing before you fly

Schengen borders have run the biometric Entry/Exit System since 10 April 2026, so expect face and fingerprint capture on arrival at CDG. ETIAS, the separate travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationalities, has not opened; the EU publishes its status at travel-europe.europa.eu.

Common questions

Do I need a visa or ETIAS for France?

It depends on the passport you hold. Many nationalities get up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area without a visa; others need a short-stay Schengen visa arranged before travel, and the official portal is france-visas.gouv.fr. Since 10 April 2026 the EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational, so expect facial image and fingerprint capture at the CDG border instead of a stamp. ETIAS, the separate travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationalities, has not opened; the EU publishes its status at travel-europe.europa.eu.

What is the fastest way from CDG into central Paris?

RER B from the Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 stations reaches Gare du Nord in roughly 35 minutes and Chatelet-Les Halles in about 40, using the Ticket Paris Region <> Aeroports at around EUR 14. Taxis run on a regulated flat fare, roughly EUR 56 to the Right Bank and EUR 65 to the Left Bank, day or night.

When does the CDG Express airport train open?

The dedicated CDG Express between Terminal 2 and Gare de l'Est is scheduled to enter service on 28 March 2027, every 15 minutes from 5am to midnight, with a roughly 20-minute journey and a fare of about EUR 24. Until it opens, RER B is the rail option. Roissybus, the old Opera coach, stopped running on 1 March 2026, so plan around the train or a taxi.

Which CDG terminal will I use, and how long should I allow to connect?

Air France long-haul concentrates in Terminal 2E halls K, L and M; Terminal 1 handles many Star Alliance and Gulf carriers, and Terminal 3 is low-cost and charter. Terminal 2G is a separate building reached by shuttle bus, so allow extra time. Groupe ADP renumbers all terminals from March 2027, so check signage against your boarding pass.
