About Barcelona
Barcelona is Vueling's home base and the long-haul base for Level, the widebody arm of the same group, which flies to the Americas from Terminal 1. Delta, United, American and JetBlue run the North Atlantic; Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Saudia cover the Gulf; Air China and China Eastern link Beijing and Shanghai; Latam and Avianca reach São Paulo and Bogotá.
Terminal 1 opened in 2009 and is the one to know: a single wide concourse with the Schengen gates ahead and the non-Schengen D and E piers to one side. No home carrier keeps its own lounge here, so premium passengers use Aena's Sala VIP rooms, Pau Casals on the Schengen side, Joan Miró beyond the border check, Colomer for the Madrid shuttle. Terminal 2 is plainer and mostly low-cost.
El Prat runs as a point-to-point airport more than a classic connecting hub, but the transfer machinery works: a free bus links Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 around the clock, taking about ten minutes, and Vueling's dense European grid feeds Level's widebodies. Aena's approved expansion adds a satellite terminal at Terminal 1 and a longer seaside runway, aimed at seventy million passengers a year.
Barcelona is a dense coastal city you can walk: Gaudí's Sagrada Família and Casa Batlló, the medieval Gothic Quarter, Montjuïc's museums above the port, and beaches where the Barceloneta grid ends. The city holds the World Capital of Architecture title for 2026, marking a century since Gaudí's death; the basilica's Tower of Jesus Christ was inaugurated on 10 June 2026.

May, June, September and October: warm days, the sea still swimmable into early autumn, and thinner crowds than July and August, when the city is hot, humid and at its busiest.
