About Delhi
Delhi is where India's long-haul map converges. Air India flies A350s and 787s from Terminal 3 to New York, Newark, San Francisco, Toronto, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich and Tokyo, and IndiGo has pushed widebodies onto European routes. Foreign carriers stack up alongside: British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, Air France, Swiss, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, ANA, Japan Airlines, Qantas, Air Canada, United and American Airlines.
Terminal 3 is one of the largest single terminals anywhere, and its international pier is where the premium ground product sits. Air India opened its flagship Maharaja Lounge there on 16 February 2026, 16,000 square feet, a bar, a library-style work area, recliners, and sleep suites in the First section. Encalm and Plaza Premium run big card-access lounges at T3 as well. Immigration and security queues are the part of the departure to budget for.
The airport works as a connection bank rather than a single-direction gateway. The Gulf hubs are about four hours west and feed onward to Africa and the Americas; Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong sit four and a half to six hours east; Europe is nine to ten hours; North America is one long hop of sixteen hours or more. Domestic feed comes through Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which are not connected airside to T3.
Delhi is two cities stitched together. Old Delhi is Mughal, the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and the lane markets of Chandni Chowk. New Delhi is an imperial grid of wide green avenues, with India Gate and the national museums. Around both sit Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar, each a World Heritage site, and a restaurant scene that runs from street kebabs to some of Asia's most decorated kitchens.
Best time to visit
October to March. November to February is cool and dry, with February and March the most comfortable. December and January bring dense morning fog that delays departures, and late-autumn air quality is poor. April to June is very hot; July to September is the monsoon.

India replaced the paper disembarkation card with an e-Arrival Card: foreign arrivals file it online up to 72 hours before landing, at indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival. It is separate from the visa and applies at every airport.
Common questions
Which terminal do international flights use at Delhi airport?
All international departures and arrivals use Terminal 3. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 handle domestic flights only, and none of the three are connected airside. A domestic-to-international connection on separate tickets means leaving the terminal, taking the free inter-terminal shuttle, then checking in and clearing security again. Allow at least 90 minutes.
What is the fastest way from Delhi airport into the city?
The Airport Express metro from Terminal 3 reaches New Delhi railway station in under 20 minutes for around ₹60, and it ignores traffic entirely. App cabs and the prepaid taxi counter take 35 to 50 minutes off-peak but can nearly double at rush hour. Terminal 1 has its own Magenta Line station rather than an Airport Express stop.
Are there business-class lounges at Delhi Terminal 3?
Yes. Air India opened its flagship Maharaja Lounge on the T3 international pier on 16 February 2026, with separate First and Business sections, two bars, a work area and sleep suites. Encalm and Plaza Premium operate large lounges at T3 as well, and most foreign carriers use contract lounges there rather than running their own.
Is anything needed to enter India besides a visa?
Yes, an e-Arrival Card. India digitised its paper disembarkation card, and foreign arrivals file the replacement online up to 72 hours before landing at indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival.
