About Ho Chi Minh City
Tan Son Nhat is Vietnam's largest gateway, and almost all of its long-haul flying is concentrated in Terminal 2. Vietnam Airlines runs Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 services to London Heathrow, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Copenhagen and San Francisco. Emirates flies daily to Dubai, Qatar Airways to Doha, Turkish Airlines to Istanbul and Air France to Paris, while Vietjet and Jetstar join Vietnam Airlines on the Australia routes.
Terminal 2 handles every international departure and works around the clock. Its lounges include Le Saigonnais, Rose, Apricot and Jasmine, several of which accept membership programmes as well as premium boarding passes. Domestic flying is split between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, which opened on 19 April 2025 with 90 check-in desks, 27 gates and room for 20 million passengers a year.
Because Tan Son Nhat sits inside the city rather than an hour outside it, the airport doubles as a regional shuttle hub. Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh and Hong Kong are all inside three and a half hours; Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo fall between four and six. The widebody departures cluster late in the evening, so a same-day feed from a short regional sector is straightforward.
Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's commercial capital and its most restless one. District 1 holds the French-era set pieces: the Central Post Office, the Opera House and the Reunification Palace, along with the War Remnants Museum and Ben Thanh Market. Around them sit the coffee lanes of District 3, the towers of Thu Thiem across the river, and the Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta within a day's drive.

Which terminal do international flights use at Tan Son Nhat?
All of them use Terminal 2, the airport's only international terminal, which operates around the clock. Domestic flights are split between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, the larger one, which opened on 19 April 2025. Free shuttle buses connect the terminals; T3 sits roughly 850 metres away, so allow extra time when connecting to a domestic sector.
How do you get from Tan Son Nhat into central Ho Chi Minh City?
There is no rail link. Bus 152 runs from Terminals 1 and 2 to Ben Thanh for 5,000 VND and takes about 55 minutes; bus 109 serves Terminal 3 for 15,000 VND. A metered taxi or a Grab car covers the 7 km to District 1 in 25 to 40 minutes for around 150,000 to 250,000 VND.
Does Vietnam require a visa?
Vietnam's visa-exemption list is short: a few dozen nationalities get 14 to 90 days, and twelve countries hold a 45-day exemption running to 14 March 2028. Every other nationality applies online through the national e-visa portal at evisa.gov.vn, which grants up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, for US$25 or US$50.
Is Long Thanh airport replacing Tan Son Nhat?
No. Long Thanh International, about 40 km east of the city in Dong Nai, is being built as a second gateway. It took a ceremonial first flight on 19 December 2025 and is scheduled for trial phases from September 2026 and commercial operations from December 2026. Tan Son Nhat keeps flying; only part of the international traffic is planned to move.
