About Brisbane

Brisbane International is south-east Queensland's long-haul gateway, serving close to 30 overseas destinations. Emirates flies nonstop to Dubai and Qatar Airways to Doha; Singapore Airlines and Qantas run Singapore; Cathay Pacific covers Hong Kong; Korean Air serves Seoul; EVA Air and China Airlines fly Taipei; China Southern links Guangzhou. Qantas also operates the Brisbane-Los Angeles nonstop, while Air New Zealand and Jetstar work the Tasman hard.

The International Terminal's premium lounges cluster on Level 4, behind Check-In Row 1. The Qantas lounge spreads over three levels and opens daily 5.30am to midnight; Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand run their own rooms. Plaza Premium sells day passes to everyone else. While escalator works are under way, Qantas lounge access sits after check-in but before screening, so build in extra time.

Almost every Brisbane long-haul itinerary involves one stop. The Gulf hubs at Dubai and Doha carry most Europe traffic; Singapore and Hong Kong handle Asia and a second Europe path; Seoul, Taipei and Guangzhou open northern Asia. Domestic-to-international transfers require a terminal change, Airtrain runs the short hop between Domestic and International, so check whether your ticket covers that leg.

Brisbane Airport's catchment stretches from the Sunshine Coast to northern New South Wales, and it carries the long-haul departures for all of it. Two parallel runways and the absence of a night curfew keep early and late widebody movements running to schedule. For places Brisbane doesn't serve nonstop, such as London or anywhere in South America, the itinerary is a connecting one whichever carrier you pick.

Entry requirementsAustralia has no general visa-on-arrival, so a visa or travel authority is arranged before departure. Many passports qualify for the Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601), issued through the official ETA app for a AUD 20 service charge; most European passports use the free eVisitor (subclass 651); other nationalities apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600). The two short-stay options both allow up to three months per entry within a 12-month period. Check which one fits your passport at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au

Common questions

What's the fastest way from Brisbane Airport to the city?

Airtrain, which runs from stations at both terminals to Fortitude Valley, Central and Roma Street in about 20 minutes. Adult one-way is around A$23.30 and children 14 and under ride free with a paying adult. Services run every 15 minutes at peak and every 30 minutes off-peak, continuing south to the Gold Coast.

Which airlines fly long-haul nonstop from Brisbane?

Emirates to Dubai, Qatar Airways to Doha, Singapore Airlines and Qantas to Singapore, Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong, Korean Air to Seoul, EVA Air and China Airlines to Taipei, China Southern to Guangzhou, and Qantas to Los Angeles. There is no nonstop to Europe, so London and the Continent are always a one-stop trip.

Do I have to change terminals to connect onto an international flight?

Yes. Brisbane's Domestic and International terminals are separate buildings about two kilometres apart. Airtrain runs the hop between them in a couple of minutes, and a terminal transfer bus also operates. Check whether your ticket includes the transfer, and allow a genuine buffer, international check-in and outbound screening are in a different building.

Has Cross River Rail opened, and will it reach the airport?

Cross River Rail's underground line was still in testing and commissioning through mid-2026, with its new inner-city stations not yet carrying passengers. It is a cross-city project rather than an airport line, so Airtrain remains the rail link to both terminals. Confirm the current status before planning a tight connection.
